ARCHIE

Male Shih Tzu X Maltese

Aged approx. 12 months

Small size

Archie is truly the most handsome little man as can be seen in his photo.  When he is out walking Archie gets so much attention that we hope it doesn't go to his head  Archie is a very happy and outgoing chappy who loves meeting people and other dogs. The best home for Archie will be with someone who is home a lot and who has another small dog to be his companion and playmate but with no small children living there. He has heaps of energy, loves his walks and equally loves to curl up on the sofa having his foster carer give him tummy rubs. Archie has a lovely soft coat which does shed a little and his coat is easy to maintain, needing just a trim and a brush every few days. He will also need a regular bath to keep his white coat sparkling. Archie is house trained and has learnt sit, stay and wait at the kerb when crossing the road on his daily walk. Archie is a really special dog and everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He will make a wonderful addition to the family and will pay back your kindness a hundred fold when you take him into your life.

UPDATE 3 OCTOBER:
Archie is doing very well in foster care and has grown since coming to
PAWS. His coat is soft and silky and does shed a little. Archie will suit a home with a family who have lots of energy to walk and play with him and he responds quite well to small and medium dogs so a home with either will suit him.

ARCHIE MUST GO WITH ANOTHER SMALL DOG BELONGING TO HIS NEW OWNER OR WITH ANOTHER SMALL PAWS DOG LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME.

SCHMINKY

Male Cavalier Spaniel X Maltese

Aged approx. 3 years

Small size

Schminky is a very loving boy who has been hurt in the past and came to us with some fear aggression issues, particularly towards older women, but he is getting over those now and becoming more confident by the day. It will take Schminky a little bit of time to get to trust his new humans so some patience will be required in the first few weeks. He gets on well with other dogs and also loves playing with children. Schminky does have some minor separation anxiety and because of this would be best suited to a home with another dog and/or humans that are around most of the time. Ongoing behavioural advice will be offered to his new family as he is currently in the foster care of a dog behaviour professional. Schminky is very good at sitting for a treat and is learning to walk on the lead but enjoys going in the car as well. He has an excellent appetite and is not at all fussy about his food. From a health perspective Schminky has two medical issues. The first is dry eye which just needs an ointment put in his eye once a day and he tolerates this very well in exchange for a treat. He also has a heart murmur which has been investigated and requires an annual check up of his heart but no other current care or medication.

Schminky
comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. He has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). If you would like more information on Schminky or to arrange to meet him, please phone Denise on 0466 690916 (between 8am and 7pm only) or email using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Before phoning or emailing, please check Denise's rescued dogs in foster care on www.paws.com.au for any updated photos and to make sure this dog is still available for adoption.

ARNIE

Male Shih Tzu X Maltese

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Arnie is a gorgeous boy who has come a long way in his foster home. Arnie and Moe were surrendered by their 19 year old owner and it was obvious they had not been cared for in any way shape or form! The vet examined them, did their surgeries and we provided all the medications required to bring them back to good health. Arnie is a very sweet boy who just loves his foster carer. He hangs out with the other dogs when no one else is home but
when his carer comes through the door he dances to let her know how pleased he is that she is back home. Arnie would love a little female doggy companion in his new home and is extremely affectionate, great with the cats and also the grandchildren. The best home for Arnie is one where someone would take him on walks, give him access to the house when they are not home and who have another sweet natured dog as a companion. Of course it goes without saying that lots of cuddles are also high on the agenda. Arnie's coat will grow and then require ongoing grooming to keep him looking spectacular.

Arnie comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. He has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). BRANDI

Female Chihuahua X Mini Fox Terrier

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Little Brandi was found wandering with another
PAWS dog Whiski and is the sweetest little girl you will ever hope to find. She is petite in size with a short, shedding coat that is very easy to maintain and there is not a mean bone in her body. Brandi came from the Pound extremely timid and is progressing well but new sounds, places
and people do scare her so she will need a gentle home environment with understanding owners that will continue to help her overcome her fears. However, once she gets to know you, her little tail flies up into the air, she puts on a smile and off she goes doing laps of the backyard and having fun playing. Brandi is very dog and people social and is learning how to play with toys and other dogs. Ideally she would have the company of another gentle and small, but confident, dog in her forever home and owners that worked part time or from home would also be ideal. Brandi does need more work at walking on lead but is progressing well with her house training. Brandi is an inside dog and requires access to the house at all times.

Brandi comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. WHISKI

Female Terrier X

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Little Whiski was found wandering with another PAWS dog Brandi and this tiny cutie is already developing a personality. Whiski is a sweet, pint sized girl with a low maintenance and short, rough style coat that requires a simple brush every week to stay in peak condition. This little girl came from the Pound very timid but she is slowly coming out of her shell and and is happy and social around other dogs. Once she knows you she is very happy and settled around people but does need more training to walk on lead. New sounds and places are still very scary for Whiski so she needs a patient and understanding person or family so she can continue developing trust and ideally would have the company of another gentle, confident doggy companion. Whiski is quite people oriented and therefore a home where the owners worked from home, worked part time or were semi- retired would be ideal. Whiski is doing well with her ongoing house training and is an inside dog that requires access to the house at all times.

Whiski comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. TYLER

Male Mini Foxy X

Aged approx. 5 years

Small size

This lovely sweet and gentle little boy is small and light with a shedding coat that requires little maintenance. Tyler is a gentle soul, not a barker and is very dog and people social. His favourite thing is to crawl up into your lap and give you a kiss! Tyler is starting to play and run around the backyard and so ideally would be homed with another gentle, small dog for company. Tyler is quite people oriented and would love his new owner to work from home or work part time so that they can be together more often. He is house trained, walks well on lead and is an an inside dog that must sleep indoors so requires access to the house at all times. His foster mum already adores Tylerand calls him her little 'shadow'.

comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. OTIS

Male Purebred Shih Tzu

Aged approx. 5 years

Small size

Otis is a lovely dog, very good looking with a golden coat and a happy smile. Shih Tzu's are Chinese lion dogs, and Otis does seem to think he's he is a lion! Otis likes the company of female dogs and plays with them quite happily therefore a home with a female dog will be best for him. Otis thinks that birds in the garden are for chasing, as are any stray cats that find their way inside his territory. He believes he's bigger than he is and so needs a home where his personality is understood. Otis likes to sleep in a quiet dark corner, which may be due to his upbringing in a cage on a puppy farm. He does however love going for long walks on a lead. and enjoys the streets and suburbs, marching along head high and having a wonderful time. Otis doesn't pull on the lead but has a lot to do and wants to do it! Otis' new home must be as an indoor dog with access via a doggy door or similar. He has a coat that will require regular grooming to keep him looking gorgeous.

CARMELLO

Male Shih Tzu X Maltese

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Carmello is a lovely little boy that is sweet and easy going and gets on well with other dogs. Carmello has a low shedding soft coat that will require regular professional grooming to stay in peak condition. He is walking well
on lead and is quite the affectionate little man in his foster home. Carmello is house trained and used to sleeping on the bed so a home where he has full indoor access at all times and outside via a doggy door is a must. Carmello is young and quite active, enjoys playing fetch with the tennis ball and tug-o-war with his doggy foster buddies. His carer says he's a good little watch dog and lets her know when she has guests! Carmello will require a home where regular exercise can be provided and where he would ideally have the company of another young playful doggy companion.

Carmello comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400. If you would like more information on
Carmello or to arrange to meet him, please phone Denise on 0466 690916 (between 8am and 7pm only) or email using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. RHIANNA

Female Poodle X Maltese

Aged approx. 18 months

Small size

Rhianna is a lovely, sweet little girl with loads of energy, great with kids and social with other dogs.  She is an easy going dog that gets on well with her carer's Border Collie pup and with another PAWS foster dog Carmello. Rhianna likes going for long walks and loves playing with her toys. She sleeps on the bed and will hop on the couch in the evening when it's time to watch TV. Rhianna is a young and very playful girl and definitely requires the company of another playful doggy companion. If you are considering adopting a pair, Rhianna and Carmello play 'chasie' around the backyard endlessly and would be a great match to be rehomed together. Rhianna has a low shedding coat that will require regular grooming.

MITCHELL

Male Shih Tzu X

Aged approx. 7 years

Small size

This sweet little monkey has been sadly neglected over the years and is only just starting to learn what real affection is. Mitchell was recently surrendered by a family that have kept him in the back yard without any company, walks or social interaction for his whole life and the first chance this little man got to have a cuddle he took it! Mitchell has been almost starved of affection so his first week or two in foster care were all about building trust. He was tense when touched and quite 'unfriendly' as you would expect, but always cautiously came back for more cuddles and pats. Mitchell is simply beautiful and loves affection now so will cuddle and smooch with his foster carer all day. However he would not be suitable for a home where there are young children and needs a patient and understanding owner who is experienced with rescue dogs. Surprisingly, given his isolated life, Mitchell adores other dogs and has begun playing with his doggy foster buddies. He is completely mild mannered and doesn't bat an eyelid when they crawl all over him. Mitchell is quite house trained with a low shedding coat that will require regular grooming. He loves walking and playing but has been alone too long so a home with another playful small dog is a must! Mitchell's foster carer loves this little guy very much even though he hasn't been with her long. He is just a beautiful, beautiful little boy!

Mitchell comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. He has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). ZACH

Male Terrier X

Aged approx. 7 years

Small size

Zach is adorable, sweet and gentle and a small boy with long legs!  He is very calm, loves giving kisses and is happy to sit and cuddle with older kids. Zach also loves to jump up on his carer's bed in the morning for snuggles and is quite the little shadow as she goes about her day. Zach gets along well with other dogs and, whilst he may not necessarily need the company of another doggy companion, if he is to be in a single dog household Zach would require a home where he is not left for long periods or ideally one where his owner works from home. Zach is quite an energetic boy and loves to get out for a good daily walk and play. He is not a barker, loves his food, is very obedient and is learning basic commands well.  Zach has a low shedding coat that will require regular grooming.

Zach comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. He has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). LEONARDO

Male Silky Terrier X

Aged approx. 10 years

Small size

URGENT HOME OR FOSTER CARER NEEDED

This little man is an absolute sweetheart! Leonardo is very easy going around people and other dogs and is a true gentleman, although not really keen on cats. He is quite high energy for his age and loves to play fetch and go for a walk. Leonardo can run and jump when the mood takes him as well. He is fine being left alone, but does really enjoy his human company and would ideally like a home where someone is home, works part time or where he has another doggy for company. Leonardo has a lovely soft, low shedding coat that will require regular brushing.

Leonardo comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention for the special adoption fee of $200 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. JACK

Male Purebred Shih Tzu

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

When Jack first came into foster care he was extremely timid and frightened and would not go near anyone but would, in fact, hide away from people. Over the next couple of weeks he became his carer's affectionate little shadow and today is quite at ease. Although still her shadow when around, Jack plays with the two adult daughters, doesn’t hide and tremble with visitors anymore and will even tentatively even sniff them. Jack is gradually allowing the adult son to pat him and doesn’t run away when he is around but Jack does have a strong fear of males. He loves his walks but, to begin with, was so scared he barely moved but now he gets very excited and would run all the way if he could. Jack is like a big, huggy, polar bear cub who loves to cuddle and play with his special person. Jack is house trained, enjoys playing with his toys and likes to tussle with his carer's Border Collie X but still needs more socialization with other dogs because he doesn’t know how to behave with them. Jack also enjoys acrobatics and your mouth will drop as you watch him jump so high, especially when he goes backwards! Jack still has some way to go in terms of losing all his fear but he is at the point where he could be rehomed with a special person who has the necessary patience. Jack is only young and can definitely achieve a normal, doggy lifestyle. He would ideally suit a female owner/s with no other dogs (because Jack bonds so strongly with you that your current dogs may feel left out). Jack has not been exposed to children in his foster home and would need initial supervision with them. Because of the strong bond Jack will develop with his new special person, they need to be 100% certain that they will stick by him for life because that devotion doesn’t deserve to be go unrewarded.

Jack comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400
and is not available for adoption outside NSW. If you would like more information on Jack or to arrange to meet him, please phone Denise on 0466 690916 (between 8am and 7pm only) or email using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Aged approx. 4 years

Small size

Maggie is a gorgeous little girl that is always happy and eager to please. She has a lot of energy to burn, loves her walks, is good on the lead, loves to run and play and is friendly with people and other dogs .... we cannot fault her! Maggie will make someone a wonderful companion as she enjoys company and seems OK to be left alone by herself. She has a good appetite, is house trained and has already learned to respond to her name and some basic commands. Maggie also loves giving you big kisses and her foster carer will miss her when she goes! Maggie has a low shedding coat that will require regular grooming and she will need a family that can exercise her daily. Maggie could be quite happy to be the only dog in the house as long as she has regular human company, however having another young playful dog there too would be ideal.

Maggie comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. She has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). PABLO

Male Purebred French Bulldog

Aged approx. 2 years

Medium size

Pablo is clearly one handsome devil! He was surrendered to the Pound when his owner no longer had the time for him and luckily a PAWS foster carer was there at the right time and took Pablo home so that he didn't have to spend anytime in the Pound at all. Pablo is cheeky and lots of fun but needs a very special home where his new family will be able to follow through with his training, as well as show him patience, love and understanding. Pablo came into care with a nasty infection in his facial folds and ears so somebody who has had experience with the breed would be great as regular cleaning of these areas is a must! Just like Pugs, French Bulldogs are brachycephalic breeds and may have various genetic health issues so regular visits to the vet will also be necessary. Pablo's new home should be with someone who has another French Bulldog or who is familiar with the breed. He is currently living with two female Pugs and they all get along well but his foster carer is also socializing him with other dogs when he is out and about on the street or in the local dog park. Pablo is quite a dominant dog and we believe a home with one other dog who is as big in both weight, size and strength will be the best for him and WE WILL NOT REHOME PABLO AS AN ONLY DOG! Although Pablo looks small he has a strong and muscular body and can be a little rough for small dogs and small children therefore a home with teenagers is probably more appropriate for him. Pablo is an inside dog that is completely house trained and he must always have access to indoors. He has a short  coat that requires the occasional brush to minimise shedding.

UPDATE 15 MAY: Since being in care Pablo has shown some not so desirable trait
s so advice was sought from a dog behaviourist specialist' to determine the best type of training for Pablo and to help his foster carer put him on the right path. Since working with Nathan the behaviouralist Pablo has certainly changed his tune and is improving, however he will need continued training to ensure he does not revert back to his old ways. Pablo is dominant and needs a very strict routine as well as a confident owner who will guide Pablo and not let Pablo guide them. Experience with bull breeds is a plus, as well as a home with another strong dog for company.

Pablo comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $500 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. If you would like more information on Pablo or to arrange to meet him, please phone Denise on 0466 690916 (between 8am and 7pm only) or email using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. SQUIRREL

Male Purebred Shih Tzu

Aged approx. 4 years

Small size

Squirrel’s story is a very sad one! Squirrel had somehow managed to escape from his home and was walking along the road when a car came round the bend and poor Squirrel went under the wheels. The driver then sped off leaving him laying on the road injured. A very kind passer-by picked him up and took him to the closest vet surgery in the hope that any injuries he had would be attended to at once. Squirrel was very sore in the back and his eye was injured but the vet gave Squirrel the once over and after a day or so just sent him off to the local Pound. Squirrel was not in a good way and PAWS was asked to take him from the Pound under duty of care as soon as possible. Squirrel was taken at once to the rescue vet who diagnosed a deep laceration right across the cornea of his eye. Squirrel was in agony and his eye had become infected but the vet believes that if Squirrel’s eye had been treated immediately he would be in a better position now. Squirrel has been in foster care for about two weeks getting all of the attention in the world. The vet consulted with an ophthalmologist on the best treatment plan possible to try and save his eye and he has had every ointment and antibiotic administered but sadly the infection was too deep and Squirrel had his eye removed on Monday 8 April. Squirrel’s owner did not come forward to claim him so we now have the pleasure of finding him a new home once he has recovered from his surgery. Squirrel has a lovely personality and, despite all that he has been through, still manages to look on the bright side of life. We will update you on Squirrel's progress soon and his wonderful foster carer will also update his photo and story when he is ready to go to his new home.

PIPPI

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Pippi is a sweet, friendly fun loving young girl with lots of energy to burn. She loves her toys (especially the squeaky one in the photo), loves to run and chase and can jump easily up onto lounges and beds for cuddles and kisses as she is a very affectionate little girl. Pippi is good on lead and around other dogs (although she can be a little scared meeting new dogs for the first time) and is doing well with her house training. Pippi will require a home where she has the company of another small, playful young dog and a doggy door for access inside and out. She has a soft, low shedding coat that will require regular professional grooming.

Pippi comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. If you would like more information on Pippi or to arrange to meet her, please phone Denise on 0466 690916 (between 8am and 7pm only) or email using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Before phoning or emailing, please check Denise's rescued dogs in foster care on www.paws.com.au for any updated photos and to make sure this dog is still available for adoption.

MIA

Female Pug X

Aged approx. 4 years

Small size

Mia was surrendered by her owners to the Pound and was very nervous and withdrawn however, after only a few weeks in foster care, Mia is gaining more and more confidence and her true colours are shining through! She is a
delight to have around, loves playing tug of war and going for her daily walks where she gets to meet all the neighbourhood dogs. Although still nervous around larger more boisterous dogs, Mia is beginning to thoroughly enjoy the company of dogs her size. She is very smart, learning new commands quickly and would be best suited to a home with a patient, loving family who don't have any small children as they may be daunting for Mia. Another small dog for company is necessary if her new family are out of the home every day  but Mia will be fine as an only dog if her new owners work from home or are retired. She has a short Pug coat so needs regular brushing to minimise shedding and is an inside dog that must always have indoor access.

FIFI

Female Purebred Maltese

Aged approx. 6 years

Small size

Fifi is a very pretty girl with a lovely nature but, when she came to PAWS, sadly had not been well cared for. Her little mouth was in appalling condition requiring Fifi to have a major dental with 16 rotten teeth being removed but this has not stopped Fifi from eating anything and everything in her foster home.  Fifi had only every had one vaccination in her entire life, she did not have a  microchip,  was undesexed and underweight and had infected anal glands.  All of Fifi’s issues received immediate veterinary attention and she is now a very healthy and happy girl.  Fifi is in foster care with a kind, caring and compassionate family who have been feeding her a well-balanced diet, taking her on walks,  little rides in the car, and most importantly, giving her lots of cuddles.  Fifi was an outside dog in her previous home but this little dog so loves to be inside with her human family and now sleeps on the bed with them instead of outside in a kennel on her own. It is heartbreaking to think how lonely she must have been. Those days are behind Fifi now and it's onwards and upwards for this little girl. Fifi is completely house trained and we will find her the best home possible where she will be treasured forever.  Fifi is a house dog who must have indoor access at all times and she would love a home with a retired couple or family. Fifi has a coat that will require regular grooming to keep her looking and feeling great.

MAPLE

Female Shih Tzu X

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Maple's foster carer gave her the name Maple as she is as sweet as Maple syrup and as resilient as the Maple tree. Poor little Maple was impounded with six unborn puppies. She was underweight and anaemic and went into labour while at the Pound but sadly none of her puppies survived due to Maple's little body being in such a neglected state. Maple was released to PAWS and went immediately to the vet clinic and had all the necessary surgery, including removal of an infected uterus. Maple is feeling so much better after a course of antibiotics and lots of good food, love and warmth and is on the way to a new life with a family who will take care of her properly. Maple has a very easy going and sweet nature. She loves her foster carers little Poodle X Polly and they play, eat and sleep together and are enjoying walks and playtime in the park. Maple loves to cuddle on the lounge and craves lots of love and attention. She would definitely be best suited to a home with another small dog for companionship but has also become best friends with her foster families cat, Tinkerbell. Maple is a house dog and will require a home with indoor access. She has a coat that will grow and require regular grooming. Maple has only been in foster care for a short time and is currently being house trained.

ELLA  AND DAVIE

Male and
Female Shih Tzu X

Both aged approx. 12 months

Small size

INSTANT CANINE FAMILY !!

Ella and Davie are a very sweet couple that are extremely fond of each other and happily rumble around playing together then use each other as pillows in their doggy bed when ready for a nap. They get on well with the cats and other dogs in their foster home but will chase the cats if they run as everything is a game to them. However they are very responsive to correction and will be easy to train with food reward and positive reinforcement. Ella is a little timid but gains confidence from Davie who is very outgoing and the more affectionate of the two. They walk well on the lead and enjoy their outings to the park but also love having a cuddle or to sit with you on the couch while you watch TV. They also enjoy 'collecting' your socks, shoes etc. and if anything is missing then check their basket first (although they do not chew anything they gather up!). Ella and Davie are slightly on the small side for Shih Tzus weighing only 4.0 and 3.5kg respectively. They both enjoy their food and sleep all night long without a sound until they hear you rise then are ready to greet you joyously. Ella and Davie are indoor dogs that learnt to use the open doggy door very quickly and they appear to be house trained. Both have coats that will grow long and require regular grooming.

MACKENZIE

Female Australian Terrier X Silky Terrier

Aged approx. 6 years

Small size

Mackenzie’s was impounded for seven days and Pounds are daunting places for dogs at the best of times but, when you have limited vision as Mackenzie does, time in the Pound would be an awful and very scary place. Mackenzie was released to PAWS and went immediately to the vet for a check up and surgery. On examination, it was discovered that Mackenzie had very nasty dew claws that were sticking into her little legs so these were removed and she is feeling much more comfortable now. Mackenzie is a very sweet little dog that is being fostered with other small dogs and gets along with them all. Mackenzie has cataracts in both eyes and we are hopeful that we will be able to do surgery to restore some or all of her vision. Mackenzie has an appointment with Mark Bilson, an Ophthalmologist from Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH), on 13 May and we will let you know the outcome of that visit as soon as we are able.

UPDATE 17 MAY:  Mackenzie is a very happy girl! She received the good news that she will soon be able to see again, something that she has probably not been able to do for a very long time. Mackenzie is a candidate for cataract surgery on both of her eyes and will have this at the end of the month. Dr Bilson will be doing the surgery and he was very impressed with Mackenzie’s impeccable personality as she sat there while lights were shone in her eyes and various testing was done to make sure that she did qualify for the surgery. Mackenzie didn’t fuss or make a sound and just sat perfectly still on the examination table. It was as if she knew that something good was going to come from her visit to the doctor! Cataract surgery is costly and we expect it to cost somewhere between $4000 and $4500. Mackenzie is pictured wearing her new warm and cosy jumper knitted by the wonderful people of 'Knitting for Australian Dog Rescue Groups'.

REBECCA

Female Purebred Maltese

Aged approx. 9 years

Small size

Rebecca is a dear little dog that is sweet and polite. She is very pretty, just like her photo, and looks at you with this quizzical expression that will melt your heart. Rebecca loves walks, loves her food, loves to sleep on your lap or in her doggy bed. She follows you round the house and, if you are outside, enjoys pottering in the garden with you. Rebecca is house trained and doesn't mind being left alone for a while if you have to go out. For some reason this cutie pie has been left abandoned after ten years in someone's house but she doesn't act her age, being active and interested in what ever you have in mind for her entertainment. Due to some neglect issues, Rebecca had an internal infection and needed some treatment but this is all healed up now. She also had to have many teeth removed but is learning about bones and doggy biscuits to keep her remaining teeth healthy. Rebecca is a delightful dog and promises to provide lots of companionship and affection to a quiet single or couple lucky enough to adopt her. She may enjoy the company of a quiet companion dog but would be equally happy on her own provided she is not left alone for long. Rebecca loves her humans and
is a house dog that would love a home where she has indoor access via a doggy door or similar. Rebecca has a coat that will grow and require regular clipping and grooming.

PENNY

Female Silky Terrier X

Aged approx. 18 months

Small size

Penny is an adorable and lively girl that is presently living with a male Jack Russell and the two of them get on beautifully. They race around the yard, relax in the sun together and love to play and wrestle. Penny is extremely fast and agile and loves going on walks. She walks quite well on the lead but is inclined to get a little excited by other dogs that she sees or hears or people coming towards her. However Penny's foster carers have noticed a great improvement in her behaviour on walks since she has arrived into care with them. Penny is often shy with visitors and is inclined to bark initially but she does settle down and will quietly head over to the visitors after a short time. She is great with children and currently has two boys to play with who roll her about and snuggle and play with her whenever she's near. Penny is very affectionate, always coming over for a pat and a lick, and she will sit at your feet wherever you go. She also looks forward to relaxing on the couch beside all members of her carers family of an evening. Penny can sit and stay on command, eats well and will crawl into her bed quite happily of an evening then her carers don't hear a peep out of her all night. She is still learning to use the doggy door and finds the flap a little intimidating to go through but will happily go in and out if it's left open. Penny will make a lovely addition to any family and as she is so happy in the company of the male Jack Russell in her foster home that we will only rehome her with another male dog for company as Penny is not suited to a home as an only dog.

Penny comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. GORDIE

Male Poodle X Spaniel

Aged approx. 2 years

Medium size

Gordie is looking for a very special home because he suffers with separation anxiety. Gordie has been in foster care with a dog trainer for a long period of time. His trainer has been walking Gordie for two hours a day everyday rain, hail or shine, plus he has time on the doggy treadmill and still has more energy left in his tank. Gordie has also been taken to training classes in the local area and is excelling because he is a very smart dog who learns everything asked of him quickly. Gordie’s foster carer/trainer now feels that he is as ready as he will ever be to go on to a new home. We want his new home to be forever and not just another step in the wrong direction as has been the case in Gordie’s past life. Gordie’s trainer believes that a home on a dog safe property on acreage with other dogs to play and exercise with will suit him as he does do well in a pack situation. A suburban block of land with a fence all around is not going to suit Gordie at all as he will become bored and bark and be a very unhappy dog. Gordie’s new owners must also be 'home bodies' not working people because his anxiety levels are raised when he is without his humans. An active retiree single person or couple is going to work best for Gordie and of course it goes without saying that he must always have access to his humans via a doggy door or similar 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Gordie has a beautiful temperament and loves playing with his toys and doggy friends. It is going to take someone who is very committed to Gordie’s routine and exercise program so a home with someone experienced will be the best for him moving forward. Gordie has a high maintenance coat that will require regular clipping and grooming.

Gordie comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. MANNY

Male Shih Tzu X Maltese

Aged approx. 18 months

Small size

Manny's foster carer describes him as being a darling dog, quiet and submissive and no trouble at all! Manny was quite timid when he arrived into foster care from the Pound but soon warmed to his foster family and enjoys rolling over to have his tummy rubbed. Manny is house trained and will 'sit' and 'come' most times he is asked so his carer believes will be very easy to train. Manny loves his food and shows his appreciation with a burp! He is learning to walk on a lead and doing quite well under gentle instruction. The best home for Manny will be with a family who are gentle and caring. Manny is a house dog and has a coat that will grow and require regular grooming.

APRIL

Female Purebred Shih Tzu

Aged approx. 8 years

Small size

A is for affectionate and adorable, P is for Princess and playful, R is for really cute, I is for intelligent and L is for lovable .... these are the words that describe April to a tee! April’s foster carer has looked after many Shih Tzus for PAWS and says that April is the best foster dog that she has ever had the pleasure of minding. April was surrendered as her owner was moving and couldn’t take April with her. She is house trained and can hold on for many hours while her foster carer is at work then sits at the front door and greets her carer with a wagging tail when she arrives home. April lives with two other female Shih Tzus belonging to her foster carer and they all get along well. As you can see from April’s picture she does love her food and has unfortunately been allowed to overeat in her previous home so needless to say April is now on a very strict weight reduction diet (under vet instructions). April loves to sleep on her foster carer's bed and has been described as a very good foot warmer, not moving all night. April has a heart murmur and is on medication for this but the particular drug she is on can now be made up by a compound pharmacy and is much cheaper than when in tablet form so the cost of the drug is about $20 per month. April will be on these drugs for the rest of her life but, once she loses a few kilos, will be in quite good shape and go on to have a happy and healthy life. April has a beautiful soft coat that will grow and require regular grooming and is a house dog so must have indoor access at all times.

April
comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention for the special adoption fee of $200 and is not available for adoption outside NSW. She has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic).
