THE AMAZING STORY OF MOET !!

Moet came into the Pound on 28 March 2007 and, as he was microchipped, he had to stay there a compulsory 14 days to give his owner time to come forward and claim him. The Pound tried to contact Moet's owner from the microchip details but were unsuccessful. This was very sad as, if none of the rescue groups were able to take him, Moet would have been euthanased. Moet was 8 years old so this made it less likely that he would go into rescue but Moet's guardian angel was watching over him on his last day. A PAWS foster carer who loves the older dogs alerted us to his plight and said that she would take care of Moet until we could find him a new home.  Moet was in quite a mess with matts all through his coat so, after a trip to the groomer, Moet was ready for his picture to be taken in the hope that someone would see him on the website and offer him a lovely new home. This is always harder with older dogs but we are a patient bunch here and thought that sooner or later Moet's turn would come. Whilst in foster care, Moet always seemed a little sad and was reluctant to come into his foster carer's home. We even thought that perhaps Moet had not been allowed inside in his previous life. He would sit outside on top of a flower pot all curled up and got a bit funny if you tried to move him inside to the warm house. Moet's carer convinced him to come inside eventually and he was happy to sit on the couch and get cuddles with his doggy foster brothers and sisters. Moet's carer had a real soft spot for Moet and Denise his rescuer and Denise his carer had many conversations about this funny dog who definitely had some "attitude".

On Friday 15 June at around 5pm, Moet's rescuer Denise got a phone call that was to change Moet's life forever. Moet did have an owner and she had been looking for him for two and half years! Moet was in the Bankstown area when he became lost and it is obvious to us now that whoever found him had kept him all that time. When Moet eventually escaped from them he ended up in the Pound as an unclaimed stray. Moet should have gone back to his owner when he was impounded but things were not that simple. Moet's owners had gone away for 6 months and, while they were away, they had a family friend take care of Moet and his brother. During that time the "friend" went to the Council and had both Moet and his brother's ownership put into her name. No-one knows how this happened or why because at no time had Moet's owner given her permission to do that and it is illegal. Moet's owners came back from their time away and never knew that if they lost either of their dogs then the microchip would not bring them home. The friends had moved out of state and were uncontactable. Unfortunately for Moet the worst possible thing happened and he did become lost  .... for two and a half years! Moet's owners never gave up hope and checked the microchip with the Council often to see if someone else had Moet put into their name. Once Moet had served his time in the Pound and he was rescued by PAWS  the details were changed into his rescuer's name and that is how the Ranger got in touch with her. The wheels were then set in motion for Moet to go back home to his family and his brother.

Moet's foster carer arranged Moet's reunion with his Mum in a nearby park and it was wonderful, with tears flowing all round. Moet's mum called out to him from 30 metres away, "Moet my baby, come to Mum"  Moet started to cry and ran for his life jumping into his Mum's arms. Moet had come alive again and whoever said dogs don't have a good memory are very wrong for Moet knew exactly who this was and the light went on in his eyes. Moet is adored by his Mum and used to sleep at the end of the bed with his brother. It must have been awful for him when he was lost for all that time and obviously not well cared for. Moet has gone back to a family who obviously adore him. His life will be great again and he is with the people he wants to be with forever.

At one point during Moet's greeting to his Mum in the park he ran back to his carer Denise for one last cuddle. Denise thinks that was his way of saying "I will be OK now" Denise cried all the way home but they were tears of joy for Moet and his family.

Have a lovely life Moet ... we are over the moon for you! A special thanks to Denise Pedley, (Moet's foster carer) for not giving up when he pushed the envelope and made her life a little hard at times. We will never forget you Moet ....
