RESCUE ME
OLDER DOGS
HOW COULD YOU?
HELP US SAVE THESE ANIMALS by BECOMing A FOSTER CARER
We are looking for genuine animal lovers to look after a Death Row dog in their own home until it is adopted. Unfortunately PAWS is no longer able to rescue cats or kittens.
Fostering is a great way to help a Pound dog if you are unable to permanently adopt one. If we didn't have Foster Carers we couldn't save these dogs as we would have no where for them to go and so they would be killed. When you foster a dog normally they will have been desexed, C5 vaccinated, heartworm tested, wormed and microchipped. We give the dogs a nice bath, Frontline them and give them a dose of Heartworm preventative medication.
At PAWS we are not donated any medical products so when we rescue a dog from the Pound our rescuers have to pay all costs. We ask that if a fostered dog gets sick or injured they must be taken to one of our Rescue Vets as they are very good to us and will not charge huge fees. This means PAWS rescuer needs to be notified before treatment is commenced. If it is an extreme emergency and the dog has to be taken to the nearest vet, we would expect that the Foster Carer contact us as soon as possible as we need to authorise any treatment other than what is initially necessary to stabilise the fostered dog. If the dog is in your care for longer than one month then we ask that you Frontline them and keep the Heartworm preventative medication going, but the main thing is to feed your foster dog and love him or her as if they were your own! You may want to check the following before you complete the form:
If you are renting or in a villa or townhouse does the landlord or body corporate allow dogs?
Do you need to consult with family members or housemates?
Will your fences need to be repaired to make your yard secure for a dog?
Are your your own dog's vaccinations up to date? If not, we recommend that your pet have a C5 vaccination (which includes kennel cough) before you foster a dog.
People interested in fostering who live in the following areas should contact their local group:
